Let's give thanks to God
Sunday 8th September 2019 09:45
We take so much for granted including the food on our plates day by day. Yet the bible teaches that God made the earth the fish, the birds, the cattle and all of the wild animals. That God gave us green plants and seed bearing plants and trees that fruit for our food and so once a year we pause and give thanks to God for the fruit of the earth.
We take so much for granted including the North Wessex AONB and yet 97% of our wild flower meadows have been lost in the last 100 years. So at St Lawrence’s church we have agreed to turn about 40% of our churchyard into wild flower meadow. In the short term the grass will be left to grow long but as the soil becomes less fertile the wildflower seeds should out compete the grass and we hope it will become a beautiful wildflower meadow and we will give thanks to God for the diversity of his creation.
We take so much for granted such as the food on the super market shelves and yet flying this produce to us is costing us the planet. So in our garden we have grown, apples, aubergines, butternut squash, cauliflower, chillies, courgettes, peppers, raspberries and tomatoes. And last year we were so successful that we were self sufficient in butternut squash and courgettes, raspberries and tomatoes. And so once a year we will pause and give thanks to God for the sun and rain and this year’s harvest.
You are all welcome to join us for Harvest on Sunday 6 October at 10.00am for an all age service or 6.30pm for the food festival songs of praise.
