What do you think heaven will be like?

I don’t think that we will be sitting on clouds playing harps and wearing wings! But rather I have recently been reading Revelation 21 and 22 which describe when God makes all things new.

Our God is not a God who rights people off but rather he is a God who wants us to be born again, to be forgiven from our past and move on with a clean conscience and I think the same will happen to the earth. I don’t think God wants us to destroy the earth with either plastic or carbon dioxide but instead I think God wants us to work with him to Re-Create the earth.

I believe that Genesis 1 and 2 is like poetry. It is picture language describing who God is, who we are and how we relate to God and one another and the world. Adam and Eve are placed in a garden and they are given the task of working the garden and caring for creation. It is as though the most beautiful thing the author of Genesis could imagine was a walled paradise garden where God and man co-operated together and it was in this garden that God and people walked together in the cool of the evening.

In the final chapter of the bible, in Revelation 22, it is like Eden is Re-Created. It is a garden city and there is living water in every street and the streets are lined with trees which fruit every month and whose leaves provide healing. And God’s throne is also in the city because he now dwells among us and there is no more death or mourning and no more crying or pain.

So what do I think heaven will be like? I think it will be like Eden Re-Created a walled paradise garden where God and Man work alongside one another. I think it will be like a garden city where life giving water is available in every street and there are tree lined boulevards. There will be no more pain or crying no more mourning or death and we will worship God with grateful hearts. I am looking forward to it. I am working for it to come into being.
