Please come and see!

You are invited to come to meet Bishop Olivia, Bishop of Reading and to view the new hall and rooms at the back of church. Bishop Olivia is coming on Sunday 16 June to preach and preside at the 10.00am communion service and will then cut a ribbon to declare the new hall officially open. There is a new hall which can seat 56 people at tables, a lovely kitchen, the necessary loos, a store room and two more meeting rooms upstairs. The standard of craftsmanship is superb and it really is worth a visit.

Our purpose in building this hall was to better serve the people of Hungerford and especially the last, the least and the lost. Our church is dedicated to St Lawrence who was the Archdeacon of Rome about the year 257. He was responsible for the distribution of food to the widows and the orphans and even described them as “The treasures of the church”. I would love it if we could continue this tradition and deploy our new rooms in the service of the poorest in our town.

I love living in Hungerford not least because there is more community here than anywhere else we have lived. It takes me 7 minutes to walk to Tesco but like everyone else I must allow 30 minutes because people want to greet us on the road. It is a great place to live. But we are also aware of people living on universal credit, of others relying on the foodbank and of yet others who have not turned their heating on all winter. The questions for us now are: - Who are the most needy in our community? and How can we best show our love and care in action?

I do hope you are free to join us on Sunday 16 June at 10.00am at church.
