Question Mark

Happy New Year! You might not know that the Church of England the Roman Catholics the Methodists and the URC all have the same readings each Sunday. And we all read Matthew’s gospel last year, we are reading Mark’s gospel this year and we will be reading Luke’s gospel next year.

So I want to encourage every Christian in Hungerford to read Mark’s gospel. I read quite quickly and so it takes me just over an hour to read Mark’s gospel but it is probably better to read it a little at a time over a few weeks.

What’s more at church our sermons from January to Easter are all going to be about the second half of Mark’s gospel. Starting with what it means to be a follower of Jesus before looking at Holy week and finishing with Easter day. Personally I am also going to read Bishop Tom Wright’s commentary ‘Mark for Everyone’ alongside my bible reading to help me see Jesus story from a new perspective.

I would also like to encourage you to join one of the home groups where we will be discussing the same passage that the sermon has been about. There are now four home groups:

Tuesday 1:00-3:00pm led by Janet Summersby
Tuesday 7:15-9:15pm led by Karen Smart
Tuesday 7:30-9:30pm at the Vicarage
Thursday 9:30-11:30am at 21 Hamblin Meadow

I believe the truth is like a diamond in the middle of the room and as we discuss the bible sharing our different insights it is as though we are describing the different facets of a diamond. I am really looking forward to hearing what you have seen in Mark’s account of Jesus story.
